TEFL 496 COURSE EVALUATION AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Facilitating class discussion: Your comments on 2 of the article presentations (2) and your comments on two of your classmates" presentations: 20% (See the guideliness in the section "Reflection reports on translation presentations" on our class wiki). Link:

2. Wiki project on translation: 20% ( See the section on "TEFL 496 Translation Project" in our class wiki for the guideliness- LINK:

You also need to comment on 2 other wikis (comment points: the layout of the project, the organization, the content, the authenticity, and the language use)
3. In-class translation tasks: 15 % (including 1 comment for each task: Comments should involve a critical appraisal of the translations in terms of language use-accuracy-, the appropriate vocabulary choice, appropriacy of style (word for word or sense for sense) and register, formality and informality ).
You need to consider of each piece of the following pieces of work):
a) Çıplaklı Köyü (the first three paragraphs)
b) Academic article (the part called "Extended abstract")
c) Bizim English (the whole text)
d) TED talk on creativity (the first three paragraphs)
e) Saftirik (the assigned pages)
4.Final paper - A translation of 2 A4 pages on a topic of your own professional/personal interest: 20 %
5.Article reflections (2 pieces): 15% (one article from the course pack and one you have found on your own related to any aspect of the translation process or the teaching of translation)
6.The contribution of the TEFL 496 course to your professional development as a prospective teacher: 10% (including your opinions on the place of translation courses in the English language teaching programs and your evaluation of the TEFL 496 course and the other translation course (English to Turkish) at the department and your suggestions to make the translation courses more beneficial for the prospective English teachers)
